Hi friends! Sorry to have been so MIA lately. It’s been a crazy summer. Life hasn’t slowed down, but I’ve missed blogging and so’ve recommitted to writing here as often as possible. I’ve gotten a lot of requests for book reviews while I’ve been gone. I had no idea you guys were enjoying those so much! I’m reading so much these days that it’s not feasible to review every book I read. So, I just wanted to share some of my favorite books that I’ve read in the last few months.
I made a really conscious effort to keep up with my reading this month. Like I’ve said before, I aim to read 52 books a year. It’s a pretty manageable goal, but it does require some work. I use Goodreads to track my reading and share book reviews, and I love their ‘reading challenge’ function. It lets me know whether or not I’m on schedule to meet my goal each year. At the end of February, I realized I was really behind schedule, so I picked up the pace this month!
I’ve now read nine books this year, which is still behind schedule, but not too shabby! I’ve got my iPad loaded up with eBooks and I’m planning on getting a lot of reading done on the plane to and from Japan this month, so check back in April to see if I’m back on track to read 52 books this year!
Have you been wondering where my January book reviews are? Yeah, me too. I did a fair amount of reading in January, but not quite enough to finish any one book.
To be honest, I’ve had a hard time convincing myself to do much reading lately. I feel more like going out with friends, watching TV, or working, rather than curling up with a book. So this wasn’t a month for extra-long literary works. Instead I gravitated toward easy reads that just kept me turning the page.
I’ve been a total bookworm my whole life. There are few things I find as relaxing as curling up with a great book and tuning out my surroundings.
When I go through periods where I don’t read very much, I feel less interesting as a person. It’s all too easy to get sucked up in watching TV, reading magazines, listening to podcasts — everything except reading books. So a few years ago, I set a goal for myself of reading at least 52 books per year. I don’t always meet that goal, but I’m competitive even with myself, so it helps for me to have a goal.
Friends are always asking me for book recommendations, and I love sharing what I’m reading, so here’s are book reviews of everything I read this month.
