When I’m on the go, I often forget to eat. I’m not really a breakfast person, and on weekdays I’m usually too busy to stop working and eat lunch. I frequently look up from my computer at 5:00 p.m. and realize I haven’t eaten a thing all day. Since I work on a college campus, there’s also always junk food (pizza, cupcakes, cookies – you name it!) lying around my office, and it takes so much willpower not to give in to that temptation on a daily basis. So I’m always on the hunt for healthy snack ideas.

That’s why I was so excited when I heard about Graze last year. Graze is a subscription snack box service. There are several different kinds of boxes you can subscribe to. I’ve chosen to subscribe to the weekly 8 snack variety box. You can also choose to have boxes delivered monthly or bi-monthly. I have them delivered straight to my office – nothing could be easier.
Graze has a selection of more than 100 different snacks to choose from. When you sign up, you fill out your profile and indicate your taste preferences. As you get each box and try new snacks, you can update your preferences and rate each snack you receive as ‘trash’, ‘try’, ‘like’, or ‘love’. You’ll never receive snacks that you’ve ‘trashed’, and you’ll get snacks that you ‘love’ on a regular basis. I don’t love spicy foods, so from the beginning I ‘trashed’ the spicy snacks. If you have specific dietary issues (e.g. vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free), you can ‘trash’ all snacks that don’t match those preferences. You can also ‘trash’ all snacks that contain specific ingredients. I learned quickly that I don’t love dried fruits, so I marked most fruit based snacks as ‘try’ so that I don’t get them very often.
I’ve found that I really love the seed and nut based snacks (a boost of protein in the middle of the day is so great for energy!), and my all-time favorite snack is the Sesame Garlic Crunch. It contains sesame sticks and rice crackers, and is only 140 calories! It’s not messy or smelly, so I can eat it between meetings without covering myself in crumbs or giving myself bad breath. Because each box is a random assortment, I never get bored with any one snack.
Each box contains 8 individually packaged healthy snacks. One of the things I like best about Graze is that each snack comes in the perfect serving size. I don’t have to figure out portions – I can just pull out one container, and I know it’s a healthy amount for one snack. Graze food is completely GMO and trans-fat free, and almost every snack is 200 calories or less, which I love.
While subscribing to Graze is a little bit of a luxury, it’s worth it to me. The 8 snack variety box costs $11.99 a week. That means each snack costs about $1.50, which is half the price of most vending machine junk food. The snacks are also healthier than most vending machine food, and they fill me up so that I don’t binge on the crap that’s always in my office. I’ll be the first to admit that I could save some money and prepare my own snacks. Carrots and hummus, apples and peanut butter, and unsalted nuts are all great healthy snack ideas. But I don’t have a lot of time on my hands, so I choose to subscribe to Graze. That way I know that no matter how busy I get, I’ll always have healthy snacks on hand.
The only thing I don’t like about Graze is that the packaging feels wasteful since each snack comes in an individual plastic container. If that bothers you, you can also purchase specific snacks in larger ‘sharing bags‘, directly from their snack shop. That would eliminate a lot of the unnecessary packaging, but would mean you’d need to portion out your snacks yourself. Also, if you fall in love with a specific snack, and don’t want to wait around to see when it’ll arrive in one of your boxes again, you can order a multipack of just that snack from the snack shop.
The 8 snack variety box isn’t the only option Graze offers. There are plenty of other boxes you can choose from. In the calorie count box, all snacks are under 150 calories. The sugar count box is great if you’re trying to cut down on sugar – each snack in that box has less than 5 grams of sugar!
All in all, I can’t recommend Graze enough. Graze snacks help me stay healthy on the go. If you want to check it out for yourself, you can join today and get your first box for free. Just signup here and wait for your delicious, healthy snacks to arrive!
