An Infinite Love Story by Chanel Cleeton is a genre-bender (part historical fiction, part romance, part light sci-fi) set during the Apollo era of the space race.
Vivian is an astronaut’s wife. Her husband Joe is commanding the first mission to orbit the moon when NASA loses contact with his ship. Is he alive? NASA doesn’t think so. But Vivian keeps seeing signs that make her believe Joe is still with her somehow. The story unfolds across a dual timeline, moving between the aftermath of Joe’s launch and flashbacks detailing their relationship.
It’s fine. The setting is the draw for me — as a space nerd I’ll always eat up anything set in this era. But the writing is nothing to write home about (pun intended), and the book lands somewhere in meh territory overall. I will say, though, that I liked the ending.
Fans of speculative romance, space race historical fiction, or Cleeton’s other books will probably enjoy it just fine, though.
