For fans of the parts of Lessons in Chemistry told from the perspective of the dog, Six-Thirty, comes Dog Person. Camille Pagán’s Dog Person is told from the perspective of a dog named Harold. His late owner, Amelia, left him with clear instructions to take good care of her love, Miguel. When the book begins, it has been a year and a half since Amelia died, and Miguel is not coping well. He’s struggling, and so is Amelia’s beloved bookstore that she left to him. Harold may be the only one who can sort things out.
This book was sweet, but it felt a little immature. I also found the writing style overly simplistic. It ran a bit long as well.
Still, the story will tug at the heartstrings of dog lovers and readers with a soft spot for griefy stories.
