Pitched as Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow meets Romantic Comedy, Into the Blue is about star crossed lovers AJ and Noah. They meet in their teens, bond over a shared love of a SciFi tv show, and then reconnect as adults seven years later when AJ is working on SNL and Noah is a world famous actor and heartthrob. They are still madly in love, but can’t be together because of #reasons.
I think how much you love this book will depend on three things:
A) How much you buy into the chemistry between AJ and Noah
B) How much you enjoy the plotline about their shared SciFi/improv niche interest
C) How you feel about the reason they can’t be together
And none of those things quite gelled for me. BUT – I’m in the minority here. Ultimately I think I found their love do be too intense and too sad for the mood I was in at the time I read this book. It was also longer and more literary than my attention span could stand at the time. And this may be unfair, but it didn’t quite work for me that a book that was at least a little bit about comedy was so unfunny.
Like I said, though, I’m in the minority in disliking this book. It has gotten rave reviews and seems to be on track to be one of the books of the year for a certain kind of reader. So I’d recommend it to any reader who has their interest peaked by the description.
