I loved Joss Richard’s debut novel It’s Different This Time — silly premise, great chemistry, conflicts that actually felt real. So I came to Let’s Kiss and Tell with high hopes.
Lucy is a sex and dating columnist whose boss tells her readers are tired of her dating escapades and want relationship content instead. Marsh is a news writer who needs a date to his ex’s wedding. So they fake date. Of course they do.
The chemistry between them is genuinely good, which helps. But the only thing keeping them apart is that they work for the same parent company? That’s it? It didn’t quite land for me as a real obstacle. And some of the storylines around their work felt less like character development and more like a lecture on sex positivity — a little heavy-handed.
This one was fine, but it felt like a sophomore slump after such a strong debut. Set in LA with trips to the Bay Area and Palm Springs, it’ll appeal to readers who love California-soaked romance. And if the idea of a Carrie Bradshaw-esque sex columnist sounds appealing, you may get more out of it than I did.
