Romantic Hero is a lightly magical romance about Gertie, a newly single romance writer living in London, who wakes up one day to find one of her own characters, surly cowboy River Oakley, inexplicably in her apartment. How did he get there? How does she get him back so she can finish her next novel and win back her ex?
It’s a fun premise. But the chemistry between Gertie and River felt more told than shown, which is a problem in a romance. And fans of Greenwood’s last book, The Love of My Afterlife, may notice this one is a little lighter on the quirky supporting characters that made that book so charming.
Still, a good not great read that I’d recommend for romance lovers, just not rave about. And fair warning for readers who love a sexy book: it isn’t that spicy.
Ashley Poston fans in particular should give Greenwood a look. I’ve found Poston’s writing has fallen off in the last few years so for readers who love lightly magical romance, Greenwood may be your new go-to.
