I’ve read The Good Part, a sweet riff on the classic Big/13 Going on 30 time travel story, twice now and loved it both times.
Lucy is a 26 year old living paycheck to paycheck with a group of weird roommates in a flat with leaky ceilings. After an especially bad day, she wishes to skip ahead to “the good part” and wakes up at age 42 as a married mother of two.
The plot is fairly predictable, but the telling is what makes it so sweet. I especially love the way the author writes about Lucy getting to know her husband and young son and building new relationships with them. Also, this book is about as realistic as a time travel story can get. It’s just good human storytelling.
I’m This is my favorite Sophie Cousens book to date, and I’m sure I’ll keep revisiting it from time to time. I think it would be a hit with all sorts of female readers between about 25 and 55.
