If Elin Hilderbrand came out of retirement to write historical fiction that was a lighter mashup of “Carrie Soto Fights Back” and “Big Little Lies”, Nicola Harrison’s “The Island Club” is what you’d get.
Set on Balboa Island off the coast of Newport Beach in the 1950s, the book tells the story of three women, their fights for independence, and the tennis club that brings them all together.
If you’re looking for a beach read that’s still historical fiction you’ll love this book. It’s light and easy to read but not too fluffy. The characters are likable, relatable, and real feeling. And in reading it you’ll really feel transported to sunny Southern California.
I highly recommend this book!
