Wait for Me, about the connection between two female folk singers born several decades apart, is the March Read with Jenna selection. It’s also rated highly by readers whose taste often aligns with mine. And yet I just could not get into this book.
The dialogue doesn’t sound like something real people would say, which can happen in books. But it stood out more than usual here and made it hard for me to settle in. I also felt like the author prioritized lyrical writing over plot development and other elements of the story.
I think this book may work better for readers who enjoy slow moving, character driven literary fiction.
