Actress Christina Applegate’s memoir You with the Sad Eyes was a no for me.
I’ve read many incredibly sad memoirs (Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry comes to mind) that are still well written and don’t feel like a nonstop pity party. This isn’t one of those. The biggest issue is Applegate’s caustic tone. It’s hard to read, or listen to, for long stretches.
Maybe a longtime Applegate fan would love this. Maybe.
