Five Pageturners I Read In One Day

I can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve shared with you what I’ve read lately! I’ve been traveling a ton, and taking advantage of time on airplanes to get a lot of reading done. (I’m more than 25% of the way finished with my reading goal for the year!)

When I’m traveling I gravitate towards captivating fiction that will hold my attention even when surrounded by distractions. Here are five books I’ve read so far this year that were all so addicting that I read them on planes, trains, and automobiles in less than 24 hours!

Young Jane Young by Gabrielle Zevin

I’ve had Young Jane Young on my ‘to read’ list since it came out last year. It’s about politics, and mothers and daughters, and how hard it can be to outrun your mistakes. I’ve heard this book described as a take on the Monica Lewinsky scandal, but it’s so much more than that. It was funny, sad, unexpected, and extremely powerful, and I hated that it was over so quickly.

The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza

The Knockoff is a fashion-y beach read in the vein of The Devil Wears Prada and The Nanny Diaries, two books I LOVED in High School. I read it on a flight recently and it was such a nice light bit of escapism. If you are a fan of the movie The Intern, you’ll love this book!

The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee

Last year I read The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee (read my review here!) and really liked it. The Dazzling Heights is the second book in that trilogy, and while I didn’t think it was quite as good as The Thousandth Floor, it was a compelling read. The trilogy tells the story of five teenagers in New York in the year 2118, and it’s a fun read. I can’t wait for the third and final installment of the series to come out later this year!

Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz

You all know by now that I’m a huge murder mystery lover. I grew up on Agatha Christie whodunits, and so felt right at home with Magpie Murders which is set in both the 1950s and present day. It’s a mystery within a mystery, so you’re basically getting a two-for-one deal on excitement with this one! I have a feeling this is going to turn out to be one of my favorite mysteries I read this year.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo may be my favorite book that I’ve read so far in 2018. I’ve talked about my love of this author before, and I have to say that I think The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best book so far. It tells the surprising life story of a Hollywood starlet, and I couldn’t devour it fast enough. The relationship between Evelyn and her 5th husband is really what made the book for me. We should all be so lucky to have a love in our lives who will catch us when we fall down. Thank goodness Taylor Jenkins Reid is a prolific writer – I want more from her ASAP!
